Adam and Jesse killed, scalded, and plucked the chickens, then brought them over to Jennie and me to be gutted. That's right. Gutted. I didn't think I could do it, and at no point in my life prior to yesterday did the thought of it even cross my mind, but I gutted about twenty dead chickens yesterday. Cut off feet, heads, and cleaned them out, separating the "good" from the "bad" organs. Joseph cleaned off the pin feathers and put them in the cooling tank. Jesse's pregnant sister, Liz helped bag them. It took us about 5 hours, averaging about 10 chickens per hour. Not bad for our first time. We now have 24 home-grown chickens in our deep freezer.

The before and after pics are a hoot. The pics say it all. We're getting concerned our chicks may have a roo among them. We didn't consider meat birds...until now. LOL
My dd fell in low with the kitten pic. My mom's cat just had kittens...we may have another addition in our family soon.
