Ducks

We've been talking about getting some kind of poultry to control bugs for over a year, now. We've thought about ducks and guineas. It turns out that one of Adam's co-workers was looking to get rid of some ducks, so he gave them to us along with a duck house, which we set up in our unused dog kennel. We are fairly certain that these are common or production-bred Rouens. They look like Mallards, but are bigger; though not as big as standard-bred Rouens:

Three males and

Three females:

They should help keep the grasshopper population down...which will help our garden but, unlike guineas, it does not sound like they will be garden-friendly otherwise, so we'll have to see about fencing off the garden, which we should probably do anyway to keep out the rabbits.

They really aren't too noisy or stinky and they're so pretty! I like them, but if it doesn't work out, we have a neighbor who would love to have these ducks...and we can use the duck house for some guineas.
