September 8, The Feast of the Nativity of Mary: Bake a birthday cake. READ: the story of Saint Ann from Once Upon a Time Saints.
September 12, The Most Holy Name of Mary: Make a Mary poster and bake cookies (using candies to spell M,A,R,Y on blue frosted cookies.) READ: Mary, The Mother of Jesus.
September 14, The Exaltation of the Holy Cross: Do a craft like Dawn's handprint cross and baking cross-shaped cookies. GAME: inspired by Matilda and MaryM, letting the girls cut crosses out of paper to hide and find. Finder of the true cross gets a specially decorated cross-shaped cookie. READ: The Tale of Three Trees
September 15, Our Lady of Sorrows: We'll be out of town, celebrating an 85th birthday, but will listen to Sweet Mary, The Seven Sorrows of Blessed Mother as we drive and throughout the month. I like the idea that Michaela posted at the 4Real forum for cutting out 7 paper hearts and pasting a sword with the name of the sorrow on each one, discussing each as we have time throughout the month.
September 21, Saint Matthew: Chocolate coins wrapped in gold foil (some for this feast, and some for the kids shoes on the feast of St. Nicholas, December 6). If all else fails, I have bubble gum coins from a friend's "wild west" birthday party that we can use.
September 29, Saint Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, archangels: Hmmm...everyone seems to have boys and will be doing things with swords and dragons and battles. I think my girls will be more interested in something that has to do with The Song of the Michaelmas Daisy Fairy. We may also have angel food cake, lighting 3 white candles, reciting a prayer to each of the 3 archangels celebrated as suggested by Women for Faith and Family.
