March 2006
Adam doesn't appear too often here - unless he's shooting or fixing something - so I wanted to include one of my favorite pictures of him today. He was, incidentally, fixing the brakes on his car this morning and working on a boat engine this afternoon.
It's too cold today, but later this week he'll be helping renovate a chicken coop at our friends house, 3 miles north of us. 50 chicks came in the mail on Thursday...we're raising them together, which means that we will each have 20-25 farm-raised chickens in our freezer for the year. I don't expect that will save us much money, but we're also trying to decide which laying hens we are going to order, which WILL save us money since eggs are more than $3 a dozen at the store! Both Adam and Jesse grew up on farms and have experience with raising and slaughtering chickens. It will be a new experience for both Jennie and me (and the kids...whose first comment on seeing the chicks last night was: "They stink").
