As you can see, we were the grateful recipients of about half a car load of 'day old' bread back in June, so I haven't had to bake or buy bread for a while and won't for another couple of months. One of our neighbors works for Catholic Social Services, which has been picking up day old bread from two grocery stores to distribute to its clients. It took about a month before the majority of this bread was being picked up by the people who really need it, but in the meantime, our neighbor was bringing home a car full of left over bread several times a week. Car loads are not as full these days, but we have still been able to get several more items and some packages of 'sweets' on occasion. (We enjoyed a package of sour cream cake donuts two weeks ago, but my favorite has been the Apple Fritters).

When I worked at the shelter in college. They always encouraged us to take the extra breads etc. There is always plenty of it. And if no one takes it. It just sits there until it has to be thrown. Its great when someone can use it:)It saved me tons of money in college:)
