chicks and ducklings?

These little guys hatched July 4th. They arrived from McMurray on July 7th. We ended up ordering some Rosecomb Brown Leghorns, Silver Spangled Hamburgs and Blue Andalusians. There are also some White Leghorns and a pair of Easter Eggers. Some are / were suppossed to go to a couple of friends. However; two had that pasty butt thing and died and several have had their heads bitten off through the chicken wire. (Which makes me think of Dumb and Dumber: "We've got no food. We've got no jobs. Our pets HEADS are falling off!") Anyway. We think the stray cat that adopted us is the culprit. We haven't had much luck with cats leaving the chickens alone. We've never kept a neutered male, though. Perhaps that is the way to go.

In other poultry news, these three drakes have been waiting around to see if one of them will be a dad. I think we lost a chocolate runner female who was sitting on two eggs under the willow tree. The khaki has been sitting on 4 in a roll of chicken wire - a much safer nest. She's rejected two eggs recently...so we'll wait and see if the remaining two ducklings hatch before summer is up. I just hope they're not drakes.
