"our" oriole

In case you haven't noticed, I've been having a bit of fun trying to identify the things we see around our acreage and have linked to information about the birds, butterflies and moths that we've seen in the sidebar. I've been watching, with particular interest, the Baltimore Oriole and his mate as they have decided to make our home theirs. This morning I finally was able to snap some photos of the male:

Perched on a tomato cage outside our laundry room window.

Preening on the red cedar outside our kitchen window.

Checking on his nest in the mulberry tree outside our dining room window.
His mate is a bit more shy; I've only seen her 2 or 3 times and it was very briefly.
