Christ is Risen!

He is risen indeed!

How are you celebrating? I've had a jar of this sitting in my pantry all through Lent and am finally getting to enjoy it. We had some of "Great-Granny's Magnificent Strawberry Shortcake" for breakfast on Easter morning. We were going to have it for dessert when we got home from the Easter Vigil, but everyone was asleep. So, I was pleased to find out that when you make it the old-fashioned way, like Rooster in Cook-A-Doodle-Doo and Susan Branch in Vineyard Seasons, it is not as sickening sweet as I'm used to. Rather than store-bought angel food cake rounds, the shortcake is actually like a sweet biscuit; rather than glazed strawberries, we used fresh, sliced strawberries; and rather than Cool Whip, we used heavy whipping cream with a little powdered sugar. It was really quite good!

We enjoyed a too-short visit with Adam's family. Lots of great food, including the best-ever black cherry pie from a local "Village Pie Lady" and the essential Easter Ham on Rhodes multi-grain rolls. Some of the cutest little bantam chicks you ever did see at Alex & Hannah's, and a quick tour of David & Andrea's almost-finished house that they've been remodeling. Hope you had - and continue to have - a lovely Easter week!
